Chapter 326: It’s Not Certain Who’s Helping Whom
Chapter 326: It’s Not Certain Who’s Helping Whom
"Get back,"
Nina Jacobs said.
Hearing this, the three of them backed away from the sand pit.
The sand in the pit began to churn. The once-loose gravel gradually solidified into rock, encasing the Mutant Tiger within it.
The Mutant Tiger let out a deafening roar.
"What’s she waiting for? Kill it while you have the chance!"
Seeing that the Mutant Tiger could no longer move, even Anselm Vance, watching from a distance, was getting anxious.
Yet Summer Warner seemed to be doing it on purpose, simply standing by and letting the Mutant Tiger continue to roar.
’Is she trying to lure something over?’
Magnus York stared at Summer Warner in disbelief, though she found the idea unlikely.
’Who would deliberately lure Mutated Animals to their own position?’
Ian Nash and his two companions also had no idea what Nina Jacobs was waiting for, not until people started jumping down from the truck.
"Let’s go! If we kill this Mutant Tiger, the mission’s complete!"
Ian Logan conjured a Gold Spike and eagerly thrust it toward the Mutant Tiger!
But it was blocked by a Stone Shield.
Nina Jacobs stared coldly at the crowd of people who were only just now climbing down from the truck.
"Did I say you could kill it?"
’The final blow against this Mutant Tiger had to be dealt by her and Wayne Warner.’
"What’s that supposed to mean? Don’t think you’re all that just because you’re powerful. Anyone can kill this Mutant Tiger,"
Ian Logan shouted.
"Ian Logan, why didn’t you help earlier?"
Ian Nash had long since grown tired of his antics. The man was just trying to steal the credit.
"Well, look at you, Ian Nash. You’ve got the guts to challenge me now?"
Ian Logan tried to step forward, but someone held him back.
"Mr. Lewis, as long as we survive, the mission counts as complete. It doesn’t matter whether we kill this Mutant Tiger."
The crowd was buzzing with excitement.
Eryx Rhodes and his people had said that simply surviving would count as completing the mission. Now, they were all eager to collect their rewards.
"You just wait, Ian Nash."
Seeing this, Ian Logan hurried after them, as if afraid the rewards would run out before he got there.
"Aren’t you going?"
Nina Jacobs noticed that Ian Nash and his two companions hadn’t left with the others.
’These people were hired for the reward supplies. She didn’t understand why they weren’t going to collect them.’
"I have a feeling... they won’t actually pay up. Better to wait and see,"
Lily Dalton said.
"I agree. I’m not falling for their lies again,"
Ian Nash said as well.
Nina Jacobs said nothing. With her Five Senses Enhancement, she could already hear the roars of several large beasts in the distance.
She conjured a Diamond Sand Spike and finished off the Mutant Tiger still trapped in the stone.
She had, in fact, been using the Mutant Tiger’s roars to attract others of its kind.
"You’re an Intermediate Earth Ability User?"
Magnus York asked eagerly the moment she stepped out of the vehicle.
’That kind of power and solidification speed... She has to be an Intermediate Superpower User.’
But Nina Jacobs ignored her, instead digging out the Beast Cores from the two Mutant Tigers.
"Any interest in joining us? I can guarantee you and your brother will never have to worry about food or drink again."
Not giving up, Magnus York pressed on.
"No,"
Nina Jacobs answered.
"You seem perfectly happy to work for free, then?"
Magnus York’s voice turned cold.
"We’ll see who’s helping whom."
Nina Jacobs looked up, a cryptic smile on her face.
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
Ben Lawson felt there was something strange about this woman, Summer Warner.
"This is bad! A large horde of Mutant Beasts is heading this way!"
Just then, someone shouted from the side.
"What?!"
Magnus York snatched the binoculars.
On the ridge of a distant slope, large Mutant Beasts were appearing one after another. Besides Mutant Tigers, there were other kinds of Mutated Animals as well.
"We need to get out of here, now!"
Seeing how bad the situation was, Magnus York immediately ordered her people to drive away.
However, their vehicles’ tires were struck by several Superpower attacks.
"If you don’t hand over the supplies today, none of you are leaving!"
Ian Logan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and snarled.
’He’d thought they would get the supplies just for surviving, but those people had just refused to honor the deal. They even tried to run them over.’
"Are you all insane?!"
Eryx Rhodes hurriedly pulled a spare tire from his space.
But it was obviously too late.
The Mutant Beasts were already closing in.
"You did this on purpose, didn’t you?!"
Magnus York turned her head to look at Summer Warner.
If before she had only suspected Summer Warner of luring the beasts, now she was almost certain.
"What do you want? Beast Cores? Why don’t we team up? All the Beast Cores from this fight can be yours."
Magnus York, surprisingly, calmed down.
Seeing the two large Beast Cores still in Summer Warner’s hands, she concluded that what Summer Warner wanted was more Beast Cores.
Everyone had just witnessed the strength of those two.
If they teamed up, it was highly likely they could eliminate all these Mutant Beasts.
"Don’t believe her!"
Ian Nash shouted.
"You’re asking to die."
Anselm Vance, standing nearby, conjured a Gold Spike and launched it at Ian Nash, but a Stone Shield blocked the attack.
"You’d better focus on how you’re going to deal with those things,"
Nina Jacobs said.
"All units, positions! Focus on killing the Mutant Beasts first!"
Magnus York finished, shooting a glance at Summer Warner.
’In any case, killing these Mutant Beasts would be beneficial for their future plans. Even if Summer Warner didn’t join them, she would have to stay and fight the Mutant Beasts alongside them.’
’This group really does have some combat experience,’ Nina Jacobs noted.
As soon as Magnus York gave the order, her people split into six groups.
The six groups were each composed of different Superpower types, and they spread out into formation.
This formation would prevent them from being overwhelmed by a concentrated attack from the large beasts.
Nina Jacobs, however, nonchalantly stepped aside to stand with Ian Nash and his two companions.
"What is that?"
Ben Lawson stared at a giant-like silhouette in the distance, his face a mask of disbelief.
"It’s a mutant ape!"
Someone shouted.
"Summer Warner, now’s the perfect time to turn the ground to sand!"
Seeing several Mutated Animals drawing nearer, Magnus York turned and shouted.
They had Earth Element Superpower Users among them.
But none of them could do what Summer Warner did.
Only Summer Warner could immobilize the Mutated Animals.
"Who said I was going to help?"
Nina Jacobs retorted coolly.
Then, with a wave of her hand, she conjured a sand shield. The shield enveloped not only her and Wayne Warner, but also Ian Nash and his two companions.
"What is this? What’s the meaning of this?"
Ben Lawson’s expression soured.
"Resting, of course,"
Nina Jacobs replied.
"This is..."
Lily Dalton reached out and touched the sand shield surrounding them.
’A shocked expression crossed her face. It was clearly just a shroud of fine sand—she could even see through it—but her hand couldn’t pass through it at all?’
"This is my Earth Defense Shield. You’ll be safe inside,"
Nina Jacobs explained.
"An Earth... Defense Shield?"
It was the first time Ian Nash had heard of such a thing.
He could hardly believe it.
Ben Lawson and his group were equally incredulous.
"Since you’re unwilling to cooperate, don’t blame us for what happens next."
Ben Lawson gave a meaningful look to the people around him.
A swift Mutated Leopard was the first to arrive on the scene.
It was immediately drawn to the Mutant Tiger corpse nearby, but the living prey up ahead was clearly a greater temptation.
A figure darted past, and the Mutated Leopard instantly pounced.
That was a Speed Element Superpower User.
He was running straight toward Summer Warner and the others under the sand shield.
"How despicable!"
Ian Nash formed a Thunder Ball in his hand.
Nina Jacobs gave a placid glance and said, "Don’t bother."
