Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever

Chapter 276: Counter Every Move—You Can’t Escape

Chapter 276: Counter Every Move—You Can’t Escape

Cameron Young, who came to deliver coffee, noticed something was wrong with him, "President Huxley? What’s wrong?"

Justin Huxley looked up, "What?"

"I said what’s wrong?" Cameron Young placed the coffee by his hand, "Here’s your coffee. You don’t look well. Did something happen?"

As Cameron Young inquired, the noisy meeting room gradually quieted down, and everyone on both sides of the conference table looked over.

Justin Huxley noticed the commotion, took the coffee cup, and pondered for a while, "I’m thinking, we poached clients who had long-standing partnerships with the Sinclair Group... Was it all too easy?"

Everyone understood what he meant and fell into silence together.

If, as he said, it was all a trap set by Maxim Sinclair in advance... It would be terrifying.

Cameron Young looked at the uneasy people, pursed his lips, "Securing these clients took a lot of effort from everyone. Maxim Sinclair has been sidelined by the board, and before we poached the clients, he had already lost nearly half of his credibility."

The implication being, Justin Huxley might be overthinking it.

The reason he managed to poach the Sinclair business was primarily due to good timing.

But the more Justin Huxley thought about it, the stranger it felt. He looked at his confidants in front of him and voiced his doubts, "Maxim Sinclair has been sidelined and made foolish decisions. Those clients didn’t trust him and instead accepted our overtures. On the surface, this explanation seems to make sense."

Cameron Young and the others did not speak, waiting for Justin Huxley’s next turn.

"But don’t forget, the Huxley Family hasn’t been calm these days either," Justin Huxley brought up matters concerning the Huxley Family, "These clients are shrewder than one another. Compared to Maxim Sinclair, the one they should trust even less is me. Yet, our cooperation with them has been so smooth, it makes me uneasy."

Everyone was convinced for a moment.

The marketing director, Ethan Collins, who had been accompanying him to meet the clients these days, was the first to echo his concerns, "President Huxley has a point. Otherwise, why not investigate a bit discreetly?"

But a new problem arose.

Getting close to Maxim Sinclair is too difficult; who will investigate? How to investigate?

Cameron Young and the others who know Summer Lowell all turned their heads to look at Justin Huxley.

Justin Huxley knew what they intended and shook his head in refusal, "No, I promised Summer Lowell that listening in on the call lists was the last time I’d use her. Besides, she’s not even answering my calls now. Even if I want her help, she wouldn’t agree."

"You haven’t even tried yet," Cameron Young opened his mouth to persuade, "Why not give it a shot? Maxim Sinclair cares so much about her; she’s the only one who might know his current situation. Through her, we can figure out if Maxim Sinclair is plotting against us."

The method Cameron Young suggested was the most convenient and effective.

But the difficulty lay in that Summer Lowell would not be willing to cooperate.

"Let’s find another way. The route with Summer Lowell won’t work—she hates getting involved in such matters," Justin Huxley shook his head and vetoed Cameron Young’s proposal, "You discuss among yourselves again and come up with other plans. The previous one won’t work."

Seeing his firm refusal, Cameron Young had no choice but to continue discussing other ways with the group to gather information on Maxim Sinclair’s current situation.

However, after some discussion, Cameron Young concluded that using Summer Lowell again was still the most straightforward and reliable method.

Justin Huxley hesitated for a long time before finally calling Summer Lowell.

Summer Lowell saw the unfamiliar caller ID and answered without much thought. As soon as she heard who it was, she wanted to hang up immediately.

Anticipating her reaction, Justin Huxley spoke first, "Summer, please don’t hang up. I have something to discuss with you."

There’s no smoke without fire.

He must be seeking her help again.

Summer Lowell suppressed her impatience, "Senior? Why did you change your number?"

Without changing the number, he couldn’t get through at all.

Justin Huxley was well aware that Summer Lowell did not want to talk to him, "You’ve helped me so much. I’ve always wanted to express my gratitude, but you don’t seem willing to give me the chance."

"There’s nothing to thank. Your actions indirectly helped me vent some frustrations, so there’s no need to thank me," Summer Lowell said as she played with a freeze-dried snack in hand, teasing the kitten in front of her. "Senior, there’s no need to dwell on this, just let it be."

"If you don’t want to talk about it, then let’s just chat casually. What have you been up to lately? Maxim Sinclair hasn’t troubled you, has he?"

Summer Lowell listened and tried to guess what Justin Huxley’s real purpose was for calling today.

If she guessed right, Justin Huxley’s call today indeed had something to do with Maxim Sinclair.

She thought of Maxim Sinclair’s unusually different tone in the early hours.

"Summer?"

Not hearing a response, Justin Huxley couldn’t help but speak again.

"Oh, Senior, I was teasing the cat. Go ahead, I didn’t catch that," Summer Lowell smiled, casually dispelling Justin’s suspicions.

"I’ve been worried about you these past couple of days. Maxim Sinclair hasn’t gone crazy in retaliating against you, has he?"

If Maxim Sinclair hadn’t retaliated against Summer Lowell, then Justin should suspect whether those clients truly intended to collaborate with him.

"Can we not talk about this?" Summer Lowell didn’t want to guess his motives. She held back from hanging up, which was already very polite of her, "I don’t want to mention Maxim Sinclair. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up first."

"Wait a moment," Justin Huxley hadn’t gotten the answers he needed, and naturally wasn’t willing to let Summer Lowell hang up. After all, it might be hard to contact her again in the future, "Tell me about your current situation. I can’t be at ease without knowing."

"It’s about the same as before. If you really care for me, Senior, it’s best to contact me less," Summer Lowell replied with a sarcastic smile, "Whenever Maxim Sinclair sees you contacting me, he goes crazy, and when he goes crazy, I suffer."

Though Justin Huxley wanted to say more, Summer Lowell, not wanting to spend more time entangled, ended the call and promptly blocked the number.

Barely a few seconds after Summer Lowell hung up, Maxim Sinclair received the information.

"We’ve unanimously concluded that Justin Huxley is likely anxious about how smoothly everything has gone and uneasy, wanting to ask about President Sinclair’s reaction through Miss Lowell," Assistant Collins stated as he and Matthew nodded in agreement.

Maxim Sinclair pinched his earlobe, let out a cold laugh, "Justin Huxley isn’t a complete fool, add some difficulty for him, make it less easy for him to snatch businesses, and stir up some trouble within the Huxley Family too, so he’s too preoccupied to consider whether I’m laying any traps for him."
