Chapter 303: Preparing for DNA Testing
Chapter 303: Preparing for DNA Testing
Charles Jenson opened his mouth to speak, but just as the words were about to leave his mouth, he recalled the complaints Maxim Sinclair had made in his presence before, and quickly shook his head, "Nothing much, you better pack up and go see Mrs. Sinclair, don’t waste more time with me."
"Spending time with you truly is a waste," Vivian Sullivan sneered as she left the bathroom. "You won’t even answer a question, hiding everything. You must have some unspeakable secrets yourself."
Charles Jenson gave a bitter smile, leaned back, and lay in the bathtub looking up at the beautiful patterns on the ceiling, murmuring, "Our President Sinclair was right, you two sisters are each more difficult to deal with than the other. Also, Justin Huxley, that man surely has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, even at this point he’s still capable of causing trouble."
Vivian Sullivan hadn’t heard what Charles Jenson said. Her mind was preoccupied with what Summer Lowell had mentioned over the phone. She quickly put on some makeup and hurried over to Summer’s studio.
"What’s the matter? The way you sounded on the phone this morning scared me," Vivian Sullivan tossed what she was carrying onto the sofa and, wrapping an arm around Summer, sat down. "Now that I’m here, just tell me what’s going on. I’ll be a good listener."
Summer Lowell locked the office door and then, with a mysterious face, pulled Vivian Sullivan aside, "It’s still about what I told you a couple of days ago. My biological parents have come looking for me, and they’ve brought with them a heap of documents to prove our relationship. I haven’t slept well for days because of this."
"I know, I got your message. I’ve been working overtime these past few days and hadn’t gotten the chance to ask you. What’s really going on? They’ve been missing for so many years, why suddenly show up now? Could there be some ulterior motives?"
Everyone was saying the same thing, and after hearing it repeatedly, Summer Lowell began to suspect. The timing of the Collinses’ appearance seemed a bit too coincidental.
The business with the two emails wasn’t even over yet, and now they showed up in person. It seemed orchestrated no matter how you looked at it.
Unfortunately, she had no solid evidence. She thought about asking Maxim for help, but for some reason, he kept avoiding the issue, showing no interest in getting involved at all.
"Maxim hinted at the same thing yesterday, he also suggested I ask that couple for hair to do a DNA test, saying it would be safer."
"Maxim’s suggestion isn’t wrong."
Vivian Sullivan sided with Maxim this time.
"If they claim to be your biological parents, they shouldn’t fear a DNA test. If that’s the case, find a way to get a strand of hair and then get it tested. Luckily, my hospital offers this service, hand me the hair, and I’ll personally make sure the test is done without anyone else touching it."
As Vivian Sullivan spoke, she took out her phone, looking like she was about to help Summer make inquiries immediately.
"Would doing this make me seem too cold? After all, they went through so much trouble to come to Stellarion to find me and acknowledge our relationship, and I’m immediately asking for a DNA test—it feels a bit too heartless."
Summer was reluctant to do the test, but she couldn’t articulate the real reason why, so she settled on this as the explanation.
Yet Vivian Sullivan saw nothing wrong with it: "DNA testing upon family reunion is perfectly normal. That’s how people do it all around the world. Why is it an issue for you? Are you afraid of ending up with nothing?"
Summer fell into a terrible silence.
In that silence, Vivian Sullivan suddenly understood Summer’s concerns.
Ever since discovering her biological parents were still alive, Summer had been tirelessly seeking information from various orphanages, trying to uncover clues about her origins.
She had never lost hope.
Of course, this journey had also witnessed countless dashed hopes.
Vivian Sullivan tenderly embraced Summer, "No matter what, you have to face it eventually. If you don’t do the DNA test now, this thorn will always linger in your heart, always haunting you, making you doubt every now and then."
Summer stayed silent.
"Take my advice, go ahead with the DNA test. You’ve already been disappointed countless times, one more won’t hurt. If luck is on your side, this time it might turn out to be true. Otherwise, continually doubting is so painful."
Vivian Sullivan held Summer’s hand, looking directly into her eyes, "I’m here for you. No matter what happens, I’m here. I’ll stay by your side, don’t be afraid, I’ll wait with you for the final outcome."
"I know, that’s why I called you today. Let’s do the DNA test as you said. I’ll call them now to arrange a meeting and ask for their hair samples. You can come with me and help me observe them... just take a look at them."
Summer gave Vivian Sullivan a tight-lipped smile, in which there was hesitation and struggle, along with the panic of the fear of hopes being dashed once more.
What a heartbreaking child.
To search so long for her biological parents, to be disappointed so many times, she dared not hope anymore.
Who knows whether this time would bring hope or disappointment.
Vivian Sullivan sighed deeply in her heart.
...
Assistant Collins clutched the phone, hurriedly barging into the chairman’s office, signaling with urgency to Maxim Sinclair who was in an online meeting.
Seeing this, Maxim quickly paused the meeting and asked the hurried Assistant Collins, "What happened? Why are you in such a rush?"
"The secretary at Mrs. Sinclair’s studio sent a message saying she is currently at the café downstairs, meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Collins."
"What’s so strange about that? She finally found her biological parents, she’s happy, and invited them for a chat over coffee to connect emotionally, all very natural interactions. Why are you so anxious?"
Maxim didn’t quite understand Assistant Collins’ intense reaction, thinking it was overly dramatic.
"Don’t tell me Justin Huxley is around there too?"
Maxim seemed to have guessed something, looking at Assistant Collins meaningfully, "You better have good news for me, or else, beware of my temper."
"I can’t control what Justin Huxley does! He indeed is at the café too, but the first-hand report suggests they haven’t met, he shouldn’t pose a threat to Mrs. Sinclair."
Assistant Collins was equally troubled, Justin Huxley’s self-destructive antics were dragging unrelated people like them into this mess.
"Justin Huxley has the time to watch such a family reunion drama, what, has he lost all ability to show any skill in his career?"
Maxim’s voice dripped with sarcasm, "This is about all he’s capable of now."
