Chapter 405: The Frozen Expanse
Chapter 405: The Frozen Expanse
White Feather trembled as the words fell from her lips, her voice cracked and her lower body weakened, almost making her fall, but I held her more carefully.
"Hey, hey, don’t worry, I promise, she’s alive, that bastard Fairywind has probably found a way to sever the link that you both share, don’t worry... we will find her. And bring her home."
I said with a reassuring tone.
I meant every word that came from my mouth. Even if it turned out otherwise, that bastard, I will shred his limbs one by one and watch them come apart with a vile satisfaction.
"For now, it’s important that we move with urgency, our closest clue is the last location you felt her."
At that point, Gilbert stirred, propping up from the floor, he sneezed a couple of times as he fully booted.
Then he looked at both of us, was silent for a while before narrowing his gaze with suspicion.
As he opened his mouth to talk, my words cut in.
"White Feather has lost her daughter’s trail. We will be speeding things up from here on out."
He raised his brows.
"Oh well, speeding things up how? It’s not like we can endlessly run? Trying to run in this freezing land might sound like a great idea, but I promise you, it’s the worst of all."
I stared at him.
"That’s for you... it’s a different case with me and White Feather."
Gilbert glanced furtively at both of us. A moment later, his gaze narrowed with suspicion.
"Wait... don’t tell me..."
I shook my head.
"We need to move fast, Gilbert, as fast as we can to reach the last location White Feather felt her daughter."
He scowled.
"What? So you’re just going to abandon me?! In what world does that make any sense?"
I drew away from White Feather and faced him.
"You have forgotten, our priority remains her daughter, the reason why we needed you was to find our daughter, why should you be the baggage that is inhibiting us from achieving that goal, when you were employed to help us achieve it?"
He did not respond, only staring at me with suppressed malice in his eyes.
I sighed.
"I promise we will come back..."
I manifested a flame and used it to form a bracelet after a deliberate effort. Then I stretched it to him.
He hesitated.
"Don’t worry, it won’t hurt you, it’ll help keep you warm and will burn whoever it touches except you."
He dubiously looked at it and gave his hand, letting me slip it in.
His eyes widened amazingly.
"It really doesn’t hurt. Wait, your flame doesn’t hurt?"
I scoffed.
"Oh, trust that it does, I have just learned to make it recognize friends and enemies. Right now, you’re a friend, anyone asides you is an enemy."
I stepped back.
"I urge you, go back to Motherling, maybe try to survive for a while inside her till we come back."
Gilbert continually stared at the bracelet before heaving a sigh.
"I’m not your business, do whatever."
I gave him a somber look and then regretfully turned to White Feather. I held her and vanished.
When I appeared in the air, White Feather was gone, sent to the embrace of my Soul Sanctum, and I... I exploded through the sky with a fearsome speed.
Guided by White Feather’s voice, I made my way to the last place where she felt her daughter’s presence.
I thought the ground was cold, that the mountain was unbearable, but the cold that assaulted me as I cut through the sky winds was something else, I even had to wrap my body in wisps of flames, hoping they would fight the cold, but that did little to help.
In the biting and hacking cold winds, I finally reached my destination.
I flew over a vast frozen forest with tall white trees. Beyond it was a vast bridge that seemed to have been carved out of ice, running over a plain, frozen land.
To prevent myself from being perceived as a threat due to my flight ability, I landed amidst the forest, towards the edge and continued forward on foot.
Around here, the trees were taller but also thinner. It was only a matter of time before I came out of the forest and climbed over the bridge. However, a few minutes after I landed, I heard a loud cry.
Luckily, it was coming from ahead, so I didn’t have to turn back, I rushed forward, and cut out of the forest in a rush.
"How can you?! How can you do this?! Do you even know who I am?!"
A blonde-haired boy draped in thick, furry clothes yelled.
"Listen brat, do we look like we care for who you are? This is the Frozen Expanse, the only thing that matters here is metal and money, you clearly have no way of providing the first, if you also can’t provide the second then scram from here!"
One of the four men that were standing at the border of the vast bridge said.
Beside the blonde-haired boy was someone curling down, holding her stomach.
The boy’s eyes danced frantically between the lady on the ground and the malicious gazes of the thugs, he looked like he was about to cry.
Suddenly, I felt an overwhelming murderous aura from the lady on the ground. The goons didn’t notice this and continued to smirk at the boy, demanding he gave them money.
The fact that they did not feel such a dangerous murderous intent, spoke volumes about their ignorance.
As the lady slowly raised herself, I stepped closer and revealed myself, bringing a distraction to the scene.
"How much is it that you are making a fuss about?"
’Oh goodness, Cade, what are you doing?’
This was so unlike me, I knew it, since when have I cared about the lives of some bandits? But then again, the lady, looking at her as I walked closer, she seemed familiar.
’Everybody is familiar to me as long as they...’
My thoughts froze as she straightened and I saw her behind. Her buttocks were tremendous, with graceful hourglass curves, her black hair draped down, reaching just above her butt.
She turned back, along with the blonde-haired boy, and her familiar piercing crimson eyes met me.
’Oh...’
