Chapter 1141 - 841: Treasure Chest System Ultimate Version Update
Rumble!
Li Zheng smashed through two mountain bodies before finally coming to a stop, his whole body covered in wounds, ghastly white bone shards jutting out from the gashes, creepy as hell.
"Peh!"
He spat out the blood foam in his mouth, then controlled the muscles in his legs, forcing himself to stand without relying on his shattered bones for support.
"That guy wasn’t bragging, he’s really fucking strong."
His most prideful Technique had been broken head-on; Li Zheng finally realized the crushing gap between them. That wasn’t an opponent he could resist.
Luckily, the time he just dragged things out was enough for Zhan Zhouzhou and the others to activate the Teleportation Disc and return to the Outer City. Now he had no more attachments—since he couldn’t beat him, then he had to find a way to run!
Splurt!
The Demon Thunder Wings unfolded on his back, the sky-covering Deep Blue Thunder Wings wrapping around Li Zheng’s wrecked body as he shot into the sky and bolted madly into the distance.
"You can’t get away."
The voice of Clone No. 1024 sounded behind Li Zheng, like a whisper right at his ear.
Li Zheng’s scalp went numb. He didn’t dare look back. He gritted his teeth, clenched the Black Dragon Spear, and jabbed it backward from under his armpit with all his might—only to stab empty air.
Pu!
A stab of agony exploded in his chest. A monstrous hand pierced flesh, bone, and armor alike, reaching in from his back and coming out his front, a still-thumping heart clenched in its grip.
The heart was still connected to blood vessels, desperately squeezing to pump blood to every corner of the body.
"Fuck!"
Li Zheng only had time to think that one word before he stared, eyes wide open, as that hand clenched and crushed his heart into meat paste.
"Hmph."
Clone No. 1024 leisurely pulled his arm back, took out a clean handkerchief and wiped the minced flesh off, looking at it like garbage, too disgusted to spare another glance at Li Zheng’s lifeless corpse.
"The Chief really is too cautious. He probably isn’t the target we’re looking for."
Stepping through the air, Clone No. 1024 chained a few Instant Teleportations together and vanished in an instant, leaving only a corpse slowly drifting down from high above, landing with a dull thud on the ground and kicking up a small puff of dust.
"Son of a bitch..."
A curse suddenly echoed out from the head of Li Zheng’s corpse, and then a baby-sized Li Zheng jumped out from between its eyebrows, patting his chest in lingering fear. "Good thing my Spiritual Power is strong enough. Even though the body’s dead, I accidentally discovered I’ve actually already reached the point where I don’t need a body to stay alive."
"If I’d known, I would’ve ditched this meat shell a long fucking time ago."
Li Zheng felt his current state was seriously weird. After losing the shackles of his body, he was finally able to unleash all his Spiritual Power without holding back.
But he’d suppressed it for too long. Now that it was suddenly all released at once, he actually felt a bit out of control.
It was like being used to pulling your punches, and then one day someone tells you, "Don’t worry, just let it all out."
Then he’d probably turn into a damn fire hose, completely unable to control the surging Spiritual Power inside him and end up draining his own origin dry.
If that happened, sure, he’d have his fun—but he’d also be dead as hell.
"Old Prel, help me check my current status."
...
"Old Prel?"
...
"Old Prel, at a time like this, what are you pretending to be dead for?"
...
"The fuck?"
Li Zheng called out to Prelis’ Eye a few times and got no response. Panic suddenly crept up on him. "Old Prel reminded me so many times before, told me to dig the eye out before I died so it wouldn’t get dragged down with me. Didn’t think it literally only existed inside my eyeball?"
Then he suddenly thought of another, even harder-to-accept possibility—could it be...the Treasure Chest System was out of reach now too?
But it wasn’t midnight yet, so the Treasure Chests hadn’t refreshed, meaning he had no way to verify it.
After all, the Treasure Chest System had never talked to him. Every attempt he’d made to communicate had been met with silence.
"Even though my body modified by Elixirs already had the ability to regrow severed limbs, the heart is still a fatal weak point. It’s the energy core of the entire body. Once it’s destroyed, the limb-regrowth ability disappears too."
Li Zheng carefully examined his own corpse. There was no change at all; the hole in the heart area wasn’t sprouting any new flesh like his injuries had before.
"So...does this mean I’m actually dead already?"
Without a body, he couldn’t even use the capsule, and without taking out the Teleportation Disc he had no way of returning to the Outer City. At best he could just wander around the Wilderness as a Spiritual Body.
"This feels fucking weird."
Li Zheng looked at his own corpse. "I clearly still have consciousness, and yet I can also clearly tell my body’s already dead...damn, that’s insane."
Since his body was completely beyond saving, there didn’t seem to be any point in hanging around here anymore.
"Better find a place to get used to this Spirit Body state first."
Li Zheng rolled up his corpse and randomly picked a direction to walk in, wanting to find a quiet place to stay so he wouldn’t be disturbed while familiarizing himself with his new condition.
After about half a day, he found a cave and walked in slowly.
"Roar!"
A beast’s roar came from the depths of the cave, then quickly turned into whimpering pleas for mercy. Finally, a rhino with bull horns and bear paws bolted out, fleeing in total panic.
"I’ll just hole up here. A Spirit Body doesn’t get hungry anyway."
Li Zheng casually dumped his corpse off to the side, then sensed his own Spiritual Energy, trying to gain complete Control over it.
...
On an open patch of ground not far from the cave, the strange Desolate Beast that had just fled in a panic suddenly split apart from the middle. The front half of its body kept charging forward, while the rear half slammed into a void portal that had suddenly appeared.
Pu!
With a soft pop, the half-body instantly turned to nothingness, as if crushed to dust by some invisible Energy.
"Cough, cough."
Drunk Evil Xiao, clad in tattered armor, appeared at the edge of the void portal. His body tilted and he tumbled out, the portal closing behind him as if it had never existed.
"Time flows weird in the Chaotic Space. I stayed in there twenty-seven seconds, so about...five hours should’ve passed in the Outer World?"
Drunk Evil Xiao rested for a full half hour, then got up and checked the time, discovering that indeed, nearly half a day had gone by.
He opened his hand and looked at the item in his palm, then finally let out a long breath. "Good thing I managed to find it in the end."
It was a pale blue, semi-transparent plate, crisscrossed with fine lines, looking a lot like some Technology Side integrated circuit.
The skin of the hand touching it was already showing signs of petrification—this was the influence of the Evil Eye Race’s Evil Eye curse. If he stayed in contact with this thing for long, in the end he’d turn completely into a fragile stone statue.
Just as Drunk Evil Xiao was about to put the thing into his Storage Space, it suddenly vanished into thin air right before his eyes.
"Who’s there?"
Drunk Evil Xiao tensed up, focusing his senses on the surroundings. Aside from the dead half of the Desolate Beast not far away, everything was calm and quiet, nothing out of the ordinary.
...
[Ultimate Version module found. Upgrade now?]
"Huh?"
A familiar electronic synth voice sounded in Li Zheng’s head, snapping him out of his state-familiarization. "Treasure Chest System? Ultimate Version module? The hell is that?"
He’d literally been doing nothing here, so how did some so-called "Ultimate Version module" suddenly pop up?
Still, as long as the Treasure Chest System was still around, that was enough. And since it was an upgrade, it couldn’t be a bad thing, right?
"Upgrade!"
[Upgrade confirmed. Host state detected as "Spirit Body". Treasure Chest System version updating to corresponding framework.]
[Upgrade complete. Hello, Host. The Ultimate Mystical Treasure Chest System is at your service. First upgrade bonus: one free Treasure Chest. Open it now?]
"Huh?"
Li Zheng was stunned. "Mystical Treasure Chest?"
This world was getting weirder and weirder. He’d already run into sci-fi and Cultivation, and now Mystical fantasy showed up?
If this were a web novel, the worldbuilding would be way too damn messy, right?
Who’d read this shit?!
